Norway recognizes past council member
NORWAY – The Norway Council recognized a former one of its own Wednesday.
Scott Popp was presented a plaque thanking him for his service to the city and community. He was on the council for nine years, from February 2016 until he resigned this past September, citing a recent career change, the demands of being a football coach and a desire to spend more time with family.
Mayor Candy Brew thanked Popp on behalf of the council.
“Scott did an exceptional job, he stood by my side as mayor pro tem and we worked well together,” Brew said. “We try to do the best we can for the city and it is hard sometimes to get people to dedicate to these kinds of jobs.”
Popp said he regrets having to step away from the council.
“There is not a time where I go past City Hall and don’t wish that I was still on the council trying to help out the community,” Popp said.
In other business, the council:
– Recognized City Assessor Jim Waisanen for helping the city receive recognition from the State of Michigan Tax Commission for receiving a perfect score on the 2024 PA 660 Assessment Audit Review.
“He does an exceptional job and not always an easy job,” Brew said. “He said to me that this is the city’s award because he is very humble and we are lucky to have him as our city assessor.”
– Approved a bid of $9,200 from Dixon Engineering and Inspection Services of Greenfield, Wis., to inspect the city’s drinking water storage tanks.
The Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lake and Energy requires the inspections every five years and the city put money for the inspections in the 2025-2026 budget.
