IRON MOUNTAIN — George I. Carver, 79, of Iron Mountain, died Sunday, July 1, 2018, at Freeman Nursing Home in Kingsford.

He was born on Sept. 6, 1938, in Roxboro, N.C., the son of the late Edward and Mavis Carver.

George married Marsha Kluskens on June 10, 1968, in Iron Mountain.

He was a member of the Evangelical Covenant Church in Norway, worked for GAF as an electrician for more than 30 years, retiring in 2003.

George enjoyed being a snowbird, going to Florida for seven months out of the year and returning in the summer for five months.

He played baseball on many hometown teams in his life and enjoyed coaching his sons in their sports.

George was an avid golfer with two holes-in-one under his belt. He enjoyed traveling with his family.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Marsha; sons, Raymond (Jamie) Carver of Wausau, Wis., and Dennis Carver of Oak Creek, Wis.; grandchildren, Santina and Jameson Carver; sisters, Linda (Guy) Barbato and Marilyn Carver-Williams of North Carolina; many nieces and nephews.

George was preceded in death by his father and stepmother, Edward and Mavis Carver; and his sister, Renay Carver.

Visitation will be 9 to 11 a.m. Thursday, July 5 at the Ortman Funeral Home in Norway.

Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with Rev. Jim Danielson, pastor of the Evangelical Covenant Church in Norway, officiating.
