John R. Murray

KINGSFORD — John R. Murray, 81, of Shasta, Calif., formerly of Kingsford, passed away Tuesday, July 17, 2018, at Shasta Regional Medical Center.

John was born and raised in Kingsford. He was an avid outdoorsman and spend much of his youth hunting and fishing on the Fence River and in the Channing area.

John graduated from Kingsford High School and upon graduation, enlisted in the U.S. Navy where his tour of duty took him to Japan.

After an honorable discharge he settled in California where he met and married Jean Einsel. He and Jean resided in the Los Angeles suburbs, where they raised two daughters, Ellen and Cindy.

John later married Carol D. Bass and together they raised two more daughters, Sheri and Vicki.

John worked for Pacific Bell and literally climbed his way to the top, from lineman to district manager, retiring after 30 years of service.

After retirement, John and Carol moved to their home on the hill in God’s country, Shasta. They spoke of memorable moments spending time with family and friends on their house boat on Shasta Lake.

John was a long standing member of the Masonic Lodge and Shrine in Shasta. He also held many offices, the highest of Master, a role he served more than once.

John was preceded in death by his wife, Carol; daughter, Ellen-Murray-Aguilar-Curtis; parents, Raymond and Eleanor; brothers, Charles and James.

He leaves behind his sister, Pam Morin of Lapeer; daughters, Cynthia (Michael) Fuller of Fond du Lac, Wis., Sheri (Gus) Bielar of Danville, Calif., and Vicki (Scott) McGrath of Chino Hills, Calif; four granddaughters and three grandsons; three great-granddaughters and two great-grandsons; and many nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life will be held at Allen and Dahl Funeral Chapel in Redding, Calif., at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Shriners Children’s Hospital.
