Troy T. Cruthoff

FLORENCE, Wis. — Troy T. Cruthoff, 52, of Florence, passed away Saturday, Oct. 12, 2019, at his home.

He was born June 15, 1967, in Eugene, Ore., son of Robert and Sally (Follmar) Cruthoff. Troy grew up all over the United States as his dad worked for many paper mills and graduated from Park Falls High School, Class of 1985.

He went on to attend Marquette University in Milwaukee before entering the United States Air Force, where he served for six years. Troy later went back and served in the United States Army for two years before being honorably discharged.

He married Michelle Carter on May 25, 1989, in Esbjerg, Denmark. He then went on to attend Bay College and Lake State College where he received his degree in nursing.

Troy worked in Greenville, Texas, as a lab tech. He moved to Florence in 1994 and worked in the ICU at the Oscar G Johnson VA Medical Center for 10 years. Troy then worked for over 10 years at Aurora Bay Care in Green Bay, Wis., as a trauma nurse.

He later took a position with Dickinson County Healthcare System, serving as the night supervisor for five years, and most recently worked at the Coliseum Macon Georgia Hospital in Macon, Ga., having moved there in Feb. of 2019.

Troy loved hunting, traveling, fishing, was an avid reader, volunteered for years at the Florence County Fire Department and loved the outdoors.

Survivors include his loving wife, Michelle Cruthoff, Florence; one daughter, Kaitlynn Cruthoff, Green Bay; two brothers, Shawn Cruthoff, Raleigh, N.C., and Todd Cruthoff, Thunder Bay, Canada; his mother, Sally Cruthoff; one sister, Michelle Cruthoff, Dearth, Georgia; one grandchild, Auden; and by his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Russ and Rachel Carter, Texas.

Troy was preceded in death by his father, Robert Cruthoff.

Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. to noon Friday, Oct. 18 at the Jacobs-Lundholm Funeral Home in Florence.

The Upper Peninsula Nurses Honor Guard will offer a memorial service at noon at the funeral home. VFW Post 3635, Florence, will accord military honors immediately following. Funeral services will be celebrated at 12:15 p.m. at the funeral home. Pastor Ryan Flunker will officiate.

To conclude, the Florence County Volunteer Fire Department will offer the last call.

A memorial will be established in Troy’s memory.
