KINGSFORD — Clarence Eugene Carlson, 93, passed away on Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2019, surrounded by family.

He was born Sept. 10, 1926, in Iron Mountain, son of the late Carl and Ethel (Peterson) Carlson.

He married Ruby June Brown on March 29, 1952, in Iron Mountain, and they were married for 28 years until Ruby’s death in 1980.

Clarence (usually called Cardie) was drafted into the United States Army during WWII. He was shipped out to the Asiatic-Pacific Theater of Operation. Clarence was a corporal stationed in Hawaii as a vehicle mechanic and was honorably discharged in 1947.

He returned home and was hired by the Milwaukee Road Railroad, first working in the shops in Milwaukee as a signal maintainer and repairman, and then as a track signal maintainer in Milwaukee and the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Clarence retired in 1986.

He enjoyed remodeling his homes, camping (he built the family’s pop-up camper), photography while visiting many national parks and car repair.

Clarence is survived by his sons, Bruce (Kristine) Carlson, John, and David (Tammy); sisters, Mae Chartier and Betty Dahlgren; brother, Raymond Carlson; grandchildren, Aaron Carlson and Sara (Dave) Malott; and great-granddaughter, Emily Scoville. He had many nieces and nephews.

He is predeceased by his wife, Ruby Carlson; brothers, Albert Carlson, Glen Carlson, Gilbert Carlson; sister, June Guetner (Ted); and his parents, Carl and Ethel Carlson.

A private family celebration of Clarence’s life will take place at a later date.
