Ina Johnson

HARDWOOD — Ina M. Johnson, 90, passed on to her heavenly home Tuesday, Nov. 26, 2019, at Evergreen Assisted Living in Kingsford, where she had been a resident for 6 months.

Ina was born June 19, 1929. She was raised in Foster City, where she attended Longfellow School and Felch High School. After graduation she moved to Chicago where she lived for 43 years, working for the U.S. Department of Defense and the U.S. Post Office until her retirement at age 61. She then returned to her hometown in Michigan.

Ina loved her log home in the country which she had built for her retirement years. She enjoyed fishing, watching wildlife and feeding her birds. She loved spending time with family and friends at her favorite place, the Milltown Inn.

Ina was very involved in her church, serving as financial secretary for many years and was a member of the Mission Covenant Woman’s Group.

She also took much pleasure in attending her nieces and nephews sporting events and was an avid Chicago Bears and Chicago Cubs fan. Ina was a very strong-willed, independent woman, with the most generous heart and strong faith. She will be greatly missed.

Ina was preceded in death by her parents, Swan and Anna Johnson; and her brother, Allen Johnson.

She is survived by her nephews, Joseph (Kristy) Johnson of Vicksburg, Miss., Rod (Michelle) Johnson of Vulcan, Dan (Darlene) Johnson of Kingsford, and Larry (Rhonda) Johnson of Felch; one niece, Lana (Mark) Ostlund of Gladstone; sister-in-law, Shirley Johnson of Kingsford; many great-nieces and nephews; and several cousins, including Bill Broeman of Kingsford.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to noon Thursday, Dec. 5 at the Mission Covenant Church in Foster City.

A memorial service will be held at noon Thursday at the church, with Pastor Kyle Henderson officiating. A luncheon will follow.

Arrangements were made with the Ortman Funeral Home in Norway.
