Bonnie Joy Surprise

Kingsford — Bonnie Joy (Hagberg) Surprise, 81, of Kingsford, passed away peacefully at home on Jan. 7, 2020.

She was born in Maywood, Ill. on June 16, 1938, to Philip and Elizabeth Maynard.

Bonnie married the love of her life, Richard Surprise on Sept. 17, 1994. They were an inseparable couple and they resided together in Kingsford until Richard’s passing in April 2019.

She was a 35-year employee of the Dickinson County Senior Citizen Center where she was genuinely loved and adored by “her” seniors.

Bonnie’s bright personality, warm heart, and contagious laugh touched many lives. She was a nurturer and was always willing to take people in.

She is survived by, her children: William (Diana) Hagberg Jr., Dee Dee (Jerry) Miller, Daniel (Mary) Smith, Bobbi (John) Martin, Shelly (Pete) Ketola, and Ann Ray; siblings, Robert Maynard Sr., Thomas Maynard, Marin (Maynard) Rademann, and Charles Maynard; 17 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-granddaughter, Sawyer Mae Johnson; her beloved Bassett hound Cleopatra “Tubaloo” Surprise; and very special friends, Orville Brooks and family, and Carla Tippett and family.

Bonnie was proceeded in death by her husband Richard Surprise; two children, Fred Hagberg and Bunny Beyers; her parents, Philip and Elizabeth Maynard; and three siblings, Kate Vogel, Sonny Maynard and Butch Maynard.

A memorial service will be held at noon, Friday, Jan. 17, at the New Hope Church of God, 614 Carpenter Ave., Iron Mountain, Mich. with Pastor Douglas Trudell, Jr. officiating.
