Maria A. Landsee

IRON MOUNTAIN — Maria A. Landsee, 77, of Iron Mountain, passed away on Sunday, Jan. 19, 2020, at her home surrounded by her family.

Maria was born on March 16, 1942, in Stambaugh, daughter of the late Emil and Elizabeth (Madaski) Kezerle. Maria grew up in Stambaugh and graduated from Stambaugh High School, Class of 1960.

Soon after graduation, she moved to Milwaukee to further her education and enrolled in a dental hygiene program to become a dental assistant. She met her husband Frank Landsee Jr., and started her family.

On July 2, 1962, Maria married Frank at St. John Cathedral in Milwaukee. They shared 52 years of marriage before his passing on Feb. 28, 2015. They were both residents of the Iron Mountain area since 1969 and both left tremendous impacts on the area and those who live within it.

Maria was a devoted member of the St. Mary and St. Joseph Catholic Church and served as a “Flower Fairy” for many years. She also took part in the Adoration Chapel in Iron Mountain every Monday.

Maria worked for the Dickinson Area Catholic School Food Service for 37 years and took great pride in feeding everyone and anyone. She was known for her delicious cooking and kind personality. It brought her great joy to share her recipes and she always made sure everyone was full, often urging to take seconds.

Maria was so selfless, she always made sure to check up on everyone else before herself. She loved spending time with her family and teaching them the ropes of gardening, dominoes, and cooking.

In her free time, she enjoyed bird watching, cheering on her favorite sports teams, especially at her grandchildren’s sports games. She also loved having company over and catching up with friends and family daily through phone calls. She was always there to be a listening ear, lend a helping hand, and give the best advice.

Left to cherish Maria’s memory are her three children, Elizabeth (Bill) Czernek, Robert (Sharon) Landsee, and Katherine Landsee-Huschitt; one twin brother, Emil Jr. “Butch” (Linda) Kezerle; three sisters, Carolyn Kezerle, Thresa (Pat) Friend, and Ann (Herb) Burton; seven grandchildren, Sara, Melissa, Casey, Joseph, Claire, Isabella and Cecilia; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

In addition to her husband and her parents, Maria was preceded in death by her father and mother-in-law, Frank Sr. and Violet (Thomsen) Landsee; as well as her brother-in-law, Richard Landsee.

Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 25, at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home in Iron Mountain.

A Memorial Mass will follow at 11:30 a.m. at St. Mary and St. Joseph Catholic Church in Iron Mountain. Fr. Janusz Romanek will offer the Mass of Christian Burial. Maria’s grandchildren will serve as pallbearers.

Interment will be in Iron Mountain Cemetery Park in the spring.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established in Maria’s name.
