HOMESTEAD, Wis. — Carole Sue Nichols, 72, of Summerfield, Fla., and Homestead, Wis. passed away on Friday, June 12, 2020, at a hospice following a battle with pancreatic cancer.

Carole was born on March 27, 1948, in Danville, Ill., the daughter of Edwin and Marthena Carlson. She attended Florence High School and graduated in 1966.

Carole married Edward Nichols on Nov. 12, 1966, in Iron Mountain. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 2016.

She was employed by the United States Postal Service as a postal clerk until her retirement and moved to Florida in 2006.

She was a member of the Immanuel Baptist Church in Summerfield.

Carole made teddy bears for shelters and knitted hats for newborns at hospitals. Carole enjoyed reading, doing crossword puzzles, painting, cross stitching, crafting, coloring, sewing and watching the Green Bay Packers. She also enjoyed going to dinner with friends, spending time with family, watching cooking shows on TV and playing games on her iPad.

Carole is survived by her husband, Ed Nichols; daughter, Carolyn Kyllonen of Aurora, Wis.; son, Matt (Peggy) Nichols of Danville, Mich.; son, Eddie (Angela) Nichols of Niagara, Wis.; sister, RuthAnn Helgren of Highland, Ind.; brother, John Carlson of N.C. and sister-in-law, Barbara (Mark) Michie of Harshaw, Wis. and four grandchildren, Ryan Kyllonen, Courtney Wenzel, Paige and Aidan Nichols.

Carole was preceded in death by her parents, Edwin and Marthena Carlson; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Everette and Harriet Nichols; brothers, Ronnie and Donald Carlson; sister, Rose Oien.

Visitation will be held on Friday, July 3 at 10 a.m. and services at 11 a.m. at the Fence Union Church in Fence, Wis.

Celebration will be outside so please bring a lawn chair. Luncheon will be at the Fence Town Hall. Please join our family in a Celebration of Carole’s life.

Services will be coronavirus precautions compliant.
