Robert S. Pozniak

He was born on Sept. 25, 1939, in Iron River, the son of the late Stephen and Victoria (Sendek) Pozniak. He attended the Iron River Schools, graduating with the Class of 1957.

Robert married Patricia Olson on Oct. 8, 1960, at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Iron River. The couple made their home in Bates Township and celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in 2020.

He was employed as a union carpenter in commercial construction. Robert was a member of the Carpenters Union 3510 where he was a past secretary, the Iron County Golden K where he was treasurer, Wildlife Unlimited, Camp Gibbs where he served as a past president, and the Iron River Senior Citizen Board. He also served on the Bates Township Board of Review and the Bates Township Zoning Board. Robert was a former member of the Iron River Elks Lodge 1671.

Robert was an avid fisherman, hunter, trapper, and general outdoorsman. He spent time teaching others about hunting and the outdoors as an instructor for Hunter Safety. His children, grandchildren, and great-grandson were his pride and joy.

He loved passing on to them his knowledge of hunting, fishing, trapping, and his appreciation of stewardship of the land. He was happiest at the camp he had helped his parents build in the late 1950s.

Robert is survived by his wife, Pat; daughter, Susan (Scott Rens) Pozniak of Grand Rapids, Mich., Barbara (Art) Zyhowski of Eagle River, Wis., and Tricia (Tom) Hamlin of Sanford, Fla.; brother, Donald (Fran) Pozniak of Indiana; grandchildren, Robert (Joni) Zyhowski, David (Jessie) Zyhowski, Alexis Hamlin, and Kyle Hamlin; great-grandson, Anders Zyhowski; extended family and friends.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 24, from 4:30 to 6 p.m. at the Jacobs Funeral Home in Iron River. A Liturgy of the Word service will follow at 6 p.m. with Deacon Terry Verville to officiate.

The family expressed memorial donations to the Golden K for their Gifts from Santa program.
