Ann Hatle-Moraska

SPREAD EAGLE, Wis. — Ann Hatle-Moraska, 66, of Spread Eagle, passed away on Thursday, Aug. 19, 2021, at the Agrace Hospice Center in Madison, Wis. Ann passed away in the same way that she lived her life; always fighting for what mattered most, always loving her family, always taking care of everyone around her, and always doing things on her own terms. She was surrounded by so much love and a family that will carry her legacy and life lessons long into the future.

Ann was born on April 26, 1955, to Orville and Antoinette Hatle in Iron Mountain. She was the youngest of three girls, but she always kept up with her sisters, Linda and Jean. Ann graduated from Iron Mountain High School in 1973 and spent the next several years immersed in academics at Central Michigan University, Bay de Noc Community College, and finally Northern Michigan University. Throughout those years she earned several degrees including a bachelor of science in nursing.

Ann’s 44-year long nursing career was mostly spent at Dickinson County Hospital.

She maintained a love of learning long after college and was never without a good book. Ann was known throughout the community as a beloved caregiver, fierce patient advocate and loyal colleague.

In 1977, Ann married Michael Moraska and in 1980, they welcomed their first child, Tony followed by their daughter, Michelle in 1984. Ann cherished the years she dedicated to raising her family. She truly knew how to live in the moment and enjoyed every big and small part of being a mom.

Ann loved the outdoors, spending time with family and friends on the lake and working with her hands on projects around the house. She was also a vocal supporter of women’s rights, equality, and affordable healthcare for all and worked to educate those who were lucky enough to have known her.

Ann is survived by her husband, Michael; her son, Tony (Megan) Moraska; her daughter, Michelle (Jake) Carpenter, and six precious grandchildren who brought her endless joy, Clayton, Lauren, and Clara Moraska and Max, Teddy, and Henry Carpenter. She is further survived by her sister and best friend, Jean (Hatle) Sullivan; brother-in-law, Patrick Sullivan; sister-in-law, Mary (Moraska) Pontbriand; brother-in-law, Michael Pontbriand, and many wonderful nieces and nephews.

Ann was preceded in death by her father and mother, Orville and Antoinette Hatle; sister, Kristen Hatle, sister, Linda (Hatle) Tinti; brother-in-law, Michael Tinti; father and mother-in-law, Joseph and Annabelle Moraska, and brother-in-law, Joseph Moraska.

Our entire family would like to recognize the following caregivers for their dedication, love and support of Ann through the years. Thank you to Dr. John Groeneveld, Dr. V. Mahadev, Dr. Adam Shaker, Dr. Sofia Carolina Masri, and all the doctors, nurses, and staff at Dickinson County Hospital, Mayo Clinic, University of Wisconsin Heart Center, and Agrace Hospice Center.

Due to the pandemic, a private family service was held.
