Iron Mountain — Mary L. Parent, 93, of Iron Mountain, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 23, 2021, at her home in Victorian Pines Estate in Iron Mountain.

She was born April 23, 1928, in Marquette, daughter of the late Eugene and Lucille (Grant) Soucy. Mary was a graduate of Bishop Baraga High School in Maquette and went on to receive her registered nursing degree at age 20 from St. Vincent Nursing School in Toledo, Ohio.

She had a 30-year career as a nurse, caring for patients both in Marquette and Iron Mountain. Mary married James “Jim” Parent on July 13, 1951, and together raised nine boys. He preceded her in death.

Family was of utmost importance to Mary. She loved spending time at the family farm walking the field, picking apples, and teaching the grandchildren how to play cards.

She and Jim enjoyed traveling in their retirement, their summer home in Big Bay, and their winter home in Apache Junction, Ariz. Mary was an avid reader, bridge player, and football fan.

Survivors include seven sons, Jim (Jackie) Parent of Wetmore, Mich., Bob Parent of Green Bay, Wis., Steve (Cindy) Parent of New Franken, Wis., David (Lynn) Parent of Green Bay, Tom (Judy) Parent and Brian (Jeanette) Parent, both of Niagara, Wis.; and Bruce (Anne) Parent of Crown Pointe, Ind.; 18 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one sister, Carol Craze of Defiance, Ohio.

In addition to her parents and husband of 61 years, James, Mary was preceded in death by two sons, Todd and Donald Parent; one grandson, Timmy Parent; and siblings, Gerald Soucy, Lucille “Biddy” Peterson, Robert “Bob” Soucy, Helen Nardi and Lawrence “Butch” Soucy.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, Dec. 1 from 9:30 until 10:30 a.m. at Jacobs Funeral Home-Niagara Chapel in Niagara.

The Memorial Mass will be celebrated Wednesday at 11 a.m., at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Niagara. Rev. Fr. Quinn Mann will officiate.

Burial will take place at Holy Cross Cemetery in Marquette in the spring.

The family would like to thank the staff at Victorian Pines and especially daughter-in-law, Jeanette, as she used her nursing skills to care for Mary these many years.
