IRON MOUNTAIN — Kathryn L. Johnson, 73, of Florence, Wis., passed away unexpectedly Friday, June 11, 2022, at the Marshfield Medical Center-Dickinson in Iron Mountain.

She was born March 9, 1949, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the daughter of the late Arthur and Marie (Stuck) Selzer. Kathryn grew up in Iowa and graduated from Amana High School. She went on to attend Luther College in Decorah, Iowa, where she received her bachelor’s of arts degree. Kathryn later attended Concordia University in River Forest, Ill., where she received her master’s degree in education. She taught as an elementary school teacher at Marion Jordan Elementary school in Palatine, Ill. for 33 years before retiring in 2004.

She married Glen Johnson on June 12, 1971, in Cedar Rapids. Kathryn was a long-time member of Lutheran Church of Atonement in Barrington, Ill. and a member of Lutheran Social Service of Illinois Women’s Network. She was a current member of Christ the Lord Lutheran Church in Carefree, Ariz., and Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Iron Mountain. She was also an active member of the Pine Grove Country Club in Iron Mountain, the Chippewa Club in Iron Mountain, and the Desert Mountain Club in Scottsdale, Ariz.

Kathryn was an avid reader and enjoyed playing bridge and golfing over the years. She also loved spending time with her beloved grandchildren.

Survivors include her loving husband of 51 years, Glen Johnson; one daughter, Anne Marie (Timothy) Leake of Caledonia, Ill.; one sister, Barbara (Charles) Hoehnle of Homestead, Iowa; one brother-in-law, Mark (Shirley) Johnson of Sisters, Ore.; three grandchildren, Benjamin, Joshua, and Matthew; and six nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held Saturday, June 25 from 9:30 until 11 a.m. at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Iron Mountain. The memorial service will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at the church. Rev. Paul Strom will officiate. Burial will take place in Cemetery Park in Iron Mountain.

Memorials in Kathryn’s honor can be addressed to Christ the Lord Lutheran Church or Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church.
