CRYSTAL FALLS — John N. Floodstrand, 85, of Crystal Falls, passed away Monday, Sept. 26, 2022, at Aspirus Iron River Hospital in Iron River.

He was born on Feb. 4, 1937, in Crystal Falls, son of the late Jake and Margarette (Gribble) Floodstrand. John grew up in Crystal Falls and graduated from Crystal Falls High School, class of 1954.

Following graduation, he proudly joined the United States Navy and worked on many different ships and carries as an aviation maintenance controller. He retired in 1980, after 26 years, ranked as a master chief petty officer AZCM E-9.

John was stationed in California, Texas, Mississippi, and Florida and had many overseas tours. John shared with his family wonderful memories of taking them on tours of his aircraft carrier, the USS Ranger.

Because of John’s time in the Navy, he was able to show his family a lot of this great country by traveling and moving throughout the United States. John always made sure that his family would come back home to the U.P. every summer to be with family.

He was united in marriage to Louise K. Martinson on March 21, 1959. After 61 years, she preceded him in death on Oct. 19, 2020.

John enjoyed playing cribbage, golfing, bowling, gardening, hunting, and fishing, as well as playing softball and baseball. He enjoyed fixing anything and everything and was a devoted Lions fan. John was a continuous member of the VFW Post 2891, and especially loved the time spent with family and friends.

Survivors include one son, Wayde Floodstrand of Crystal Falls; two daughters, Claire (Gregg) Isaacson of Crystal Falls, and Leigh (Keith) Steiro of Amasa; seven grandchildren, Carmen (Josh) Novak of Bayfield, Wis., Hannah Floodstrand of Amasa, John Floodstrand of Green Bay, Wis., Carlton (Jessica) Isaacson of Grand Forks, N.D. Hank Steiro of Traverse City, Mich., Adel (Matt) Riutta of Calumet, and Dodge Isaacson of Crystal Falls; two great-grandchildren, Sander Isaacson and Gage Novak; one brother in law, Johnny (Jan) Martinson of Amasa
