Joyce Game
POWERS — Joyce Elizabeth Game, 84, passed away Saturday, March 18, 2023, at Pinecrest Medical Care Facility in Powers. Pinecrest and UP Health Systems Homecare and Hospice teams provided her kind and loving end of life care.
Born on March 5, 1939, to the late Mary (Curry) and Harold Burkee, Joyce grew up in Chicago with her three sisters, and graduated from Harper High School. She married Richard Game on April 12, 1958, at Thoburn Methodist Church in Chicago.
Joyce enjoyed figure skating and did so with a passion until the age of 75. She was a typist for the Federal Reserve Bank, and worked for Marshall Fields as an assistant manager in the beauty salon department. Joyce loved traveling the world with Richard, and together they had many fond memories.
After many years of living in the Chicagoland area, Joyce and Richard retired to the Upper Peninsula where they owned and operated the North Country Store and Motel in Paynesville, Mich. In 2015 they moved into Victorian Pines in Iron Mountain, where they met many new friends.
Joyce loved spending time with her family. Survivors include one son, Russell (Joan) Game; two daughters, Nancy Chapman and Mary (Ken) Game; six grandchildren, Sarah (Hollie), Catherine (John), Daniel (Andrea), Jenny (Lance), Brian, and Allison (Jeremy); eight great-grandchildren, Lily, Ruby, Carson, Mariana, Zayda, Lettie, Atana, and Aiden; one sister, Nancy Castner; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Joyce was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Richard Game; their son, Richard Game Jr., and two sisters, Marilyn Adams and Barbara Owen.
In accordance with Joyce’s wishes, private family services will be held.
