Carol P. Phelps

1930-2023

BRADENTON, Fla. — Carol P. Phelps, 92, of Bradenton, Fla., formerly of Kingsford and Iron Mountain, died April 29, 2023, at her son’s home in Florida.

Carol was born Aug. 4, 1930, in Iron Mountain to the late Harry and Verna (Dettmann) Olson. She graduated from Kingsford High School, class of 1947. Three years later she married Raymond Phelps in Milwaukee, and together they raised two sons.

Over the years they spent time in both Florida and California. Carol worked for many years as an office manager for an insurance agency. They returned to the area in 1988 and shared several wonderful years of retirement together before she lost Raymond in 2014.

Carol was an active member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Kingsford. She spent time volunteering at Dickinson County Hospital and in her spare time enjoyed sewing, cooking, baking and playing cards, especially pinochle.

Carol is survived by her two sons, Ken Phelps of Bradenton and Keith Phelps of Aurora, Wis.; daughter-in-law, Judy Phelps; sister-in-law, Margaret Olson of Aurora; grandchildren, Jennifer (Joe) Strelcheck, and Ryan Phelps (Jenifer Mott); one great-grandchild, Jason Strelcheck; special friend, Amanda Fankhauser; and 24 nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Raymond; one brother, Ronald Olson, and one sister, Shirley Podjaski.

A visitation for Carol will be held May 27, from 1 to 3: p.m. at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Kingsford. A service will follow at 3 p.m. with Rev. Matt Ruesch officiating. Burial will be at Homestead-Aurora Cemetery.
