Roger W. Baravetto

KINGSFORD — Roger William Baravetto, 90, of Kingsford, passed away on Wednesday, May 24, 2023, at his home.

Roger was born in Iron Mountain on Aug. 9, 1932, son of the late James & Rose (Andrini) Baravetto. He graduated from Iron Mountain High School in 1951 and was a lifelong resident of the area.

Roger married Patricia VanPembrook on Sept. 27, 1952, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Aurora, Wis. He served four years in the U.S. Navy and was honorably discharged in 1956. Roger was employed at Michigan Bell Phone Co. for over 30 years, retiring in 1994.

He was a member of the Golden K, the Paisano Club, the Knights of Columbus, and St. Mary Queen of Peace Catholic Church. Roger was a devout catholic and made dozens of rosaries for family and friends.

He also volunteered driving cancer patients to Marinette for several years. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, gardening, and spending time at Camp Pottsville with family and friends.

Roger will be deeply missed by his three children, Mark (Deb) Baravetto, Tina (Carl) Kassin, and Lisa (Mark) Blomquist; 11 grandchildren, Shawn (Rachel McBee) Baravetto, Brittany (Benett) Mack, Dylan Bailey (Chelsey LaTender), Chelsae Bailey, Michelle (Sam) Sharp, Joe Kassin, Russ (Joy) Kassin, Marcus Blomquist (Jeremias Rodriguez), Kyle (Meg) Blomquist, Jamie (Joe) Jahnke and Brody Blomquist; 18 great-grandchildren; a sister, Gail Baravetto; a sister-in-law, Bonnie (Bill) Caviani; a brother-in-law, Hank VandeCastelle; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, including special friends, Jackie Raffin, Duane Santi, and Leonard Lemanski.

In addition to his parents and wife of 70 years, Patricia, Roger was also preceded in death by two brothers, Donald (Lola) Baravetto and James “Jimmy” Baravetto; a brother-in-law, Bill (Toni) VanPembrook; and a sister-in-law, Janie VandeCasteele.

Visitation will be held from 9 to 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, May 31 at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home in Iron Mountain. The Funeral Mass will follow at 11 a.m. at St. Mary Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Kingsford. Father Michal Woempner will offer the Mass of Christian Burial. Burial will be in Homestead-Aurora Cemetery.
