Terese Ruth Engquist

IRON MOUNTAIN — Terese Ruth Engquist, 80, went home to Jesus on Sept. 12, 2023, with her loving husband by her side.

Terese was born in Iron Mountain on March 24, 1943, and her mother happily shared that birthday with her. She is the daughter of the late Armond “Mondo” and Ruth (Warden) D’Andrea.

Terese graduated from Iron Mountain High School in 1961. Terese married her best friend, Dennis G. Engquist on Aug. 11, 1962, and they were blessed with 61 years together.

Terese was an amazing wife, daughter, mother, sister, cousin, friend and servant of God. She lived a fantastic life and truly made the best of each and every day.

Terese cherished and enjoyed her family. She was blessed with two amazing parents and a sister who valued the gift of family. She then instilled that gift in her own family. She and Denny had a close friendship with her sister and brother-in-law, Sharon and Bob Melendes. They had many journeys traveling together over the years and made amazing memories together as a result.

Terese was the awesome mother of two daughters and a son who loved her and will miss her dearly. Nothing was left unsaid and the memories are endless.

She was also blessed with grandchildren who adored her, vacationed with her and spent time in the kitchen with her learning to cook and bake cookies. Terese loved her grandchildren and was awaiting her first great-grandchild. She had a bond with her grandchildren like no other. She made each grandchild feel like they were the only and favorite grandchild, just as her father did with her children. They will miss her and will treasure the time and the memories they had together.

Her extended family consisted of many aunts, uncles, cousins and nephews who meant the world to her. She had many shopping expeditions with her dear friend, Kris Andes for many years. Her coffee group was very special to her and visited and enjoyed a special lunch together for the last time. She was elated to have that time with each one of you. Terese was a member of PEO, she had a green thumb, was an avid reader and loved to walk.

Terese had a strong faith that never wavered. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Kingsford. She and Dennis were also married in this church. She was an amazing pianist and shared that talent at church playing both the piano and organ.

Terese became a member of Grace Evangelical Presbyterian Church when she and Dennis retired to Leesburg, Fla. She loved and always looked forward to the Monday night small group get-together. Terese established many strong friendships at church and in their neighborhood that she grieved upon leaving Florida.

Terese is survived by her loving husband, Dennis; sister, Sharon (Bob) Melendes; daughter, Kristen Marshall and her children, Alexandra (Aaron) Wilkinson and Dominic Marshall; daughter, Kimberly (Mike) Servia and their children, Jack and Grace; son, Ken (Leigh) and their children, Thomas and Rachel.

Heaven gained a beautiful, kind, loving, energetic soul – and an amazing Italian cook!

Mom, you are so loved and missed by all of us. We will cherish all of the wonderful memories that you created. We will miss you every holiday and remember how you pulled each one off effortlessly. We are so proud of you. You fought until the end and were as classy and caring as ever. Your pain and suffering are gone. Rest in peace. Until we see you again. Love you forever.

The family will have a private ceremony in Iron Mountain in the future.
