1942-2023

Caroline J. Anderson

IRON MOUNTAIN — Caroline J. Anderson, 81, of Iron Mountain, passed away on Oct. 1, 2023, at Pinecrest Medical Care Facility in Powers.

Caroline was born on Sept. 25, 1942, in Iron Mountain, daughter of the late Walter and June (Larson) Lindgren. She was raised in Kingsford, and was a 1960 graduate of Kingsford High School. After high school Caroline worked as an administrative assistant at Lake States wood treating plant in Quinnesec and the W.B Thompson Co. in Iron Mountain.

During this time, Caroline reconnected with Robert Anderson — another member of the 1960 graduating class of Kingsford High School, with whom she had been corresponding during his time in the service. They were married on June 29, 1968, in Kingsford, and would eventually settle in Cicero, Ill.

In 1972 Caroline and Robert purchased a home on the north side of Elmhurst, Ill., where they raised their boys, John and Jeff, and lived for the next 30 years. In 2003, they relocated to Buffalo Grove, Ill., to be closer to Robert’s work at Walgreens headquarters, before eventually moving back to Iron Mountain in 2008.

Caroline was an amazing woman whose dedication as a mother was not only essential to her family’s well-being but also a reflection of her immense love and selflessness. As a caretaker, Caroline was the heart and soul of her family, ensuring her children’s safety, comfort, and emotional nurturance. She took on the role of educator, teaching them fundamental life skills with patience and devotion.

She would organize schedules and prepare amazing meals while fostering a warm and welcoming home environment. She was the emotional anchor, providing her children with unwavering support and guidance. She was also, for a time, their personal chauffeur, driving them to school, activities and appointments, always ensuring they had every opportunity to succeed.

Caroline set a powerful example as a role model, embodying qualities such as patience, kindness, responsibility and a strong work ethic. Even amidst her personal sacrifices, Caroline remained dedicated to her family’s well-being. Her love knew no bounds, and she consistently put her family’s needs before her own. To her friends, she was fiercely loyal, always there to support them, lift them up and lend a helping hand.

Later in life, Caroline enjoyed visits with her grandchildren and reconnecting with old family and friends still residing in the U.P. area. She and Robert would take almost daily drives in the country, exploring the countryside, each trip its own unique adventure. Caroline was a kind and devoted wife and mother who loved her family more than anything. She will be dearly missed but fondly remembered for the love, dedication and selflessness she brought to every moment of her life.

Caroline is preceded in death by her husband, Robert; and her brother, Doug Lindgren of Kingsford.

She is survived by her sons, John (Amy) Anderson of Lombard, Ill., and Jeffrey (Christin) Anderson of Franklin, Tenn.; a sister, Glenda Carlson of California; a brother, Dale Lindgren of California; four grandchildren, Henry and Sage Anderson, Austin and Cole Anderson; nieces and nephews; and many great-nieces and -nephews.

Visitation will be at the Kingsford Funeral Home, 1000 S. Carpenter Ave., from 10 to 11:30 a.m. on Friday, with the funeral service starting at 11:30 a.m.

Burial will be in Homestead-Aurora Cemetery.
