Germaine A. Stromberg

GAASTRA — Germaine A. Stromberg, 91, lifelong resident of Gaastra, passed away on Monday, May 26, 2025, at the Iron River Care Center.

She was born on Sept. 21, 1933, in Stambaugh, the daughter of the late Frank and Margaret (Finn) Clements. She attended the Stambaugh Schools, graduating from Stambaugh High School with the class of 1951.

Germaine married her high school sweetheart Gerald “Stubby” Stromberg on Sept. 11, 1954, in Gaastra and together raised six children. They celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary in 2024.

After graduating from high school, Germaine worked at Selin’s Furniture in Iron River. She was the former treasurer for the City of Gaastra. Germaine enjoyed taking care of her family and helping her husband with his garden doing the canning and freezing. She liked to cook and bake, especially bread. Germaine loved the outdoors and was physically fit taking walks daily. She and Gerry always welcomed company, and their door was always open. She made Sunday dinners for her family and friends every week.

Germaine was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses in 1971. She lived her faith. It was one of her greatest joys to volunteer her time going door to door sharing Bible based hope with others and had the privilege of having Bible studies with many. She was thrilled to learn that God has a personal name, Jehovah. Psalms 83:18.

Germaine is survived by her husband, Gerald; sons, Conrad (Colleen) Stromberg of Amasa, Randy (Cathy) Stromberg of Iron River, Jeff (Betty) Stromberg of Iron River, and Dale (Christine) Stromberg of Caspian; daughters, Cindy (Dan) Wheeler of Iron Mountain and Lisa (Dale) Kuettel of Hortonville, Wis.; brother, Ronald Clements of Schwartz Creek, Mich.; 14 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and many special nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.

She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Harold, Lawrence, Francis, and Walter Clements; sister, Margaret Sheehan; and three grandchildren, Cassandra and Justin Wheeler and Mario Stromberg.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Aspirus Hospital and the Iron River Care Center for their loving care. Also, thank you to all her friends from the Kingdom Hall. She would always say “I’m thankful for my family, friends, and the good neighbors on Nowicki road.” We love you all. She was loved by all and will be forever in our hearts.

A visitation will be held on Sunday, June 8 from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Iron River. A service will follow at 2 p.m. with Dale Stromberg officiating.

Interment will be in Stambaugh Cemetery.
