Forstrom retires as head of DPW in Breitung Twp

Bouquets and Barbs

GUY D. FORSTROM

Bouquet: If you have ever had the pleasure of meeting Breitung Township’s Department of Public Works Superintendent Guy D. Forstrom, you know that he is a force to be reckoned with when it comes to experience and knowledge regarding Public Works. Guy has always been “the guy” to go to when the township and its residents needed anything done.

When you are driving down U.S. 2 or the main streets in Breitung Township, you can see examples of Guy’s creativity on display, whether in lighted Christmas displays, or the American flag that proudly lights up the side of our Department of Public Works building year-round. He was always quick to lend a helping hand, even if it was outside of his usual work parameters.

Achieving the Silver Drop Award for 30 years as a water operator, streamlining DPW functions and processes, documenting and tracking the township’s rich history, restoring the Model T fire truck and crafting beautiful, handmade lighted holiday decorations were only a few of his notable accomplishments while employed here.

It is with much sadness that we announce his retirement, effective Thursday, from the Charter Township of Breitung after nearly 43 hard-working years in our Department of Public Works. His laugh, his “Boomer” work ethic and go-getter attitude, along with his knowledge and expertise, will be sorely missed by everyone at Breitung Township. On behalf of the Board of Trustees, office employees and the Department of Public Works crew, we wish Guy Forstrom happiness and health in his retirement.
