Disappointed in level of celebrity obsession today

Bouquets and Barbs

Barb: A few months ago a woman wrote in to the Detroit Free Press and vented how tired she is of our celebrity-obsessed culture, like we should care about who they are dating, where they are vacationing, etc. Such as the focus on Prince Harry and the great royals of England, who, if I am not mistaken, we fought a revolution to break away from. I wish I would have written down the woman’s name to send her a thank you.

I know I was born a hundred years too late. In the last half of 1800s the people who were considered celebrities were men like Ulysses S. Grant, Abraham Lincoln, Frederick Douglass, etc. Men of substance, with great accomplishments.

Now, it’s people who make a living pretending to be someone else or someone who puts a ball in a basket. God help us all.
