KINGSFORD — Five returning starters form the nucleus of Kingsford High School girls basketball.

The Flivvers return All-Great Northern Conference first-team point guard Jordyn Kriegl and second-team center Hannah Carlson along with Bri Robinson, Abby Tomasoski and Renee Roberts.

“We’ve got a great mix of players that have worked hard in the pre-season to get their basketball legs underneath them,” said Flivvers coach Mike Cross. “We bring a lot of experience to the table with five returning starters led by senior Hannah Carlson and junior Jordyn Kriegl.

“Both had great seasons last year and have put in the time this offseason to really have great seasons again this year. Bri Robinson, Abby Tomasoski and Renee Roberts also worked hard this offseason and bring a great deal of firepower to our team. All three will be keys to our success.”

Cross said guards Kriegl and Roberts “handle the ball very well and have shot thousands of shots since last year and that will pay off as we move forward in the season.”

Kriegl was named to the All-GNC defensive team.

“Another big strength we have is our post players, Hannah Carlson and Bri Robinson,” Cross added. “Both are both highly skilled post players that are both capable of scoring very well.”

Developing experience and depth off the bench will be a priority.

“Cassie Barglind, Sarah Harris, Olivia Lorenzoni, Maddie Koski and Sam Cross have no varsity level experience but that will change as the year progresses,” coach Cross said. “The big thing for them is to build confidence in what we are doing and what we need them to do.”

The Flivvers finished 13-9 overall and 4-4 GNC last season.

Kingsford starts the season Tuesday at North Dickinson. The home opener is Friday, Dec. 2, with Westwood. The first GNC test is Dec. 13 with Gladstone.

“The top team in our conference is for sure Marquette,” said Cross, assisted by junior varsity coach Jon Lorenzoni and freshmen coach Joe Kriegl. “They have been very good over the past several years. I like our chances with them but they are certainly the team to beat in the conference.”
