Boys basketball: Badgers fall to STAA in OT

Niagara loses 10-point lead late in game

NIAGARA, Wis. — St. Thomas Aquinas Academy shut out Niagara in overtime and defeated the Badgers 67-62 in M&O Conference boys basketball Thursday.

The Badgers (6-14, 2-12) owned a 10-point lead with about 10 minutes left in the game, according to Niagara coach Jim Hoogland. The game was deadlocked at 62 after regulation.

“We played with a lot of intensity,” Hoogland said. “Alex (Hagerty) had a wonderful game.”

Hagerty led the Badgers with 21 points and seven rebounds. Austin Hagerty added 17 points and Ben Oratch had 12 points with seven rebounds.

Hoogland cited “costly turnovers, tough shot selection and poor free-throw shooting down the stretch in overtime.”

STAA’s Jack Farley scored a game-high 29 points and Tyler Stuart sank six three-point field goals in a 26-point effort.

Niagara travels to Gillett on Monday.
