Baseball: IM splits doubleheader; Flivvs rout Stephenson

IRON MOUNTAIN — Iron Mountain split with the Marquette junior varsity team on Tuesday.

The Mountaineers won the second game 3-0 after dropping the first game 3-2.

Iron Mountain’s Brent Aman scored in the fourth on a single by Caleb Johnson to cap the scoring.

Jacob Maxon scored in the second on a hit from Ian Anderson. Blake Julian scored in the first inning.

Caleb Johnson pitched the second game for the Mountaineers. He struck out 11 and walked three.

In the first game, Marquette grabbed a 2-0 lead in the third and added a run in sixth.

IM stranded four runners in scoring position.

Julian pitched for the Mountaineers, striking out 11 and walking four.

Flivvs rout Eagles

KINGSFORD — Kingsford amassed 13 hits and beat Stephenson 15-1 in four innings on Tuesday.

“We finally came alive tonight. It was pretty impressive,” Kingsford head coach Chad Lindeman said. “It was rocket shots. The wind was blowing straight in and we hit rockets. This is the way I expected that we would hit. We really started tattooing the ball today finally.”

Hunter Lindeman had three singles. Luke Terrian doubled and singled. Noah Wilcox had two singles and a double. Colin Erickson had a single and Carter Kreski had a single and double.

Ben Stanish pitched a gem for Kingsford, giving up just one hit while striking out nine and walking four.

“Ben threw tremendous. He threw fairly hard today but he threw consistent,” Lindeman said.

Kingsford hosts North Central Thursday.

Three Lakes sweeps Florence

THREE LAKES, Wis. — Florence was overmatched in a doubleheader loss to Three Lakes in Northern Lakes Conference action Tuesday.

The Bobcats fell 16-3 in the first game and 15-3 in the second game.

“We were completely outplayed and they’re the better team,” Florence head coach Dave LaPoint said. “They returned the most players. They’re a good solid team. We’ve got a lot of young kids that are learning and sometimes it’s a little rough. The only way you can get better is to keep playing games. We’ll keep trying.”

Mike Dishaw and Cody Reubens pitched the second game for Florence. They gave up a combined 12 hits and four walks with four strikeouts.

Lucas Krueger doubled for the Bobcats.

In the first game, Kaden Schuls and Braden Boettcher pitched for Florence, giving up 12 hits with four walks and three strikeouts.
