IRON MOUNTAIN — Charlie Gerhard accounted for 22 points as Iron Mountain’s boys won a quad track and field meet Thursday at Mountaineer Stadium.

Iron Mountain posted 78 points in beating Ishpeming 71, Westwood 55.333 and Negaunee 48.666.

Gerhard swept the hurdles, ran a leg of the winning 1600 relay and took second in the high jump.

“Chucky dropped his 300 hurdles time pretty good,” said IM coach Kevin Sullivan, noting a 42.45 clocking.

Iron Mountain also swept the relays.

Brandon Proudfit took first in the discus (10-7-10) and second in the shot.

Colton Yesney broke the Negaunee school record in the 800-meter run (1:58.83) along with finishing first in the 400 and 1600.

Clara Johnson’s firsts in the 800, 1600 and 3200 led Negaunee’s girls, 97, over runner-up Iron Mountain 57. Westwood and Ishpeming shared third with 50.

“Second is big for us,” Sullivan said.

Taylor Talerico figured in three wins, 100 dash plus 400 and 800 relays. Olivia Berutti also ran in the 400 and 800 relays, and added wins in the 100 hurdles and 200 dash. Tiana Brooks, second in the 100 and 200, joined Saylor Swartout to fill out the 400 and 800 relays.

“This is a great step for us,” Sullivan said. “We’re headed in the right direction. This was a great effort by the girls. Everybody was diving in to do what they needed to do.”
