Boys basketball: IM routs Manistique, 75-52

MANISTIQUE — Iron Mountain throttled Manistique 75-52 in a Mid-Peninsula Conference game on Thursday.

The Mountaineers (11-0) held a 24-11 lead after the first quarter and led 52-19 at halftime.

“It was a good overall team win and everybody got to play,” Iron Mountain head coach Bucky Johnson said. “The defense was pretty good for the most part. Free throw shooting was good again. We shot the ball from the field well.”

Marcus Johnson led Iron Mountain with 27 points. Foster Wonders had 20 points and five rebounds. Charlie Gerhard had 15 points.

“They’re very good,” Emeralds’ coach Bill Boddy, an Iron Mountain native, said of the Mountaineers. “They’re big, fast and strong and they know how to play basketball. They started hot. We outscored them in the second half which is a morale victory for us, I guess.”

Schyler Andersen drained five triples and scored 23 points for the Emeralds (3-8, 1-6). Wyatt Gierke had 12.

Iron Mountain JV won 64-27.

The Mountaineers host Negaunee on Tuesday.
