Girls Basketball: Niagara scores late to beat Gillett

Girls Basketball

GILLETT, Wis. — Niagara scored in the final seconds to edge Gillett 47-45 in M&O Conference girls basketball Thursday.

The Badgers (9-2, 5-2) rolled to a 28-12 lead in the first half.

“It was a tale of two halves,” said Niagara head coach Karl Lamoreaux. “Gillett loves to pressure full court and we broke their press with ease and scored.

“In the second half they pulled the press and we were not as successful in a half-court game.”

With Gillett claiming a 45-44 lead with 12 seconds remaining, Jasmine Racine drove to the basket and passed to Jessica Oratch for the go-ahead points. Oratch added a free throw in the final seconds.

Oratch had 17 points, 11 rebounds and six blocks. Jaida Maki chipped in 13 points and 10 rebounds. Racine added 10 points. Cassie Gill grabbed 10 rebounds.

Niagara, third in the M&O behind league-leading Oneida Nation and Wausaukee, hosts Coleman on Monday.

Gillett JV won.
