Knights eye regional ski meet

IRONWOOD — Norway High School ski team finally got back on the hill after weather issues forced the rescheduling of several races.

The Knights, in preparation for the MHSAA regionals, traveled to Big Powderhorn Mountain for the Theron Peterson Memorial.

Seniors David Loomis and Allie Sheski led the Knights to runner-up in giant slalom.

“These two seniors really showed their experience and leadership skills as they each put down solid runs,” said Norway Coach Steve Sheski.

Loomis found the podium with a fifth in Slalom. Sheski was ninth and Alex Heigl 17th to “score some very important points,” according to Sheski.

“Giant slalom was good for the Knights,” said coach Sheski, noting Jake Munn, David Loomis, Allie Sheski and Alex Heigl all finished clean runs to put the Knights into a solid second place behind the strong Marquette Team.

Ironwood finished third and Houghton/Hancock fourth.

The next race is MHSAA regional competition Monday at Nub’s Nob in Harbor Springs.
