Track & Field: Selden breaks her school hurdles record at state

Track & Field

LA CROSSE, Wis. – Florence freshman Audrey Selden broke her own 100-meter hurdles school record in the WIAA Division 3 state track and field meet at Memorial Stadium..

Selden placed fifth in the state meet with a time of 15.59, erasing her previous school standard of 15.85 set at the sectionals.

“Audrey ran the fastest time of any freshman at the state meet regardless of class,” said Northwoods Storm assistant John Stockel. “To give some perspective to her time, only two (Division 1) girls ran under 17 seconds at the UP Track and Field Finals in Kingsford.”

The Storm, a Florence-Niagara co-op, had two other athletes at the state meet.

Senior Brent Dumke jumped 19-feet-4.5 to place 15th.

“His last jump was over 21-feet but unfortunately he fouled by about one inch,” Stockel said.

Sophomore Alyssa Cretton cleared 4-10 to finish 15th in high jump.
