Baseball: Channing rallies past Blagec Heating

CHANNING — The Channing Railroaders used small ball in the sixth to edge Blagec Heating 3-2 in Superiorland Baseball League play Monday.

The Railroaders (4-1) started the sixth with Tyler Miller reaching base on an error and the game tied 2-2. Adam Niemi bunted Miller to second and he reached third on a passed ball. A walk to Conor Berndt put runners on the corners until he stole second. Lane Holsworth lifted a one-out sacrifice fly to left field, scoring Miller.

Blagec Heating (2-4) hit into two outs on two pitches with a flyout and groundout before Nate Krueger’s single kept the inning alive. Not for long. Joe Linn hit a soft fly into shallow centerfield, where Luke Holsworth chased it down with a diving catch to secure the win.

Channing got just one hit in the game, a two-out single by Bryce Jauquet in the fourth.

Kyle Sexton shined in his return to the mound after missing a few games with a knee injury. Sexton threw a complete game and gave up the two runs on six hits with two walks and eight strikeouts.

Channing got its first two runs in the third when Jauquet and Bryon Harper scored on a bases-loaded walk and sacrifice fly.

Blagec Heating threatened first during a scoreless tie in the third with runners at second and third and no outs. Sexton escaped the jam with a strikeout and a pair of groundouts.

Ethan Blagec, Linn and Kevin Evosevich pitched for Blagec Heating. They gave up a combined three runs on a hit with nine walks and three strikeouts.
