Another ‘Cats rout

Florence 54 Sevastopol 0

SEVASTOPOL, WI — A long bus trip to the Door Peninsula didn’t faze the undefeated Florence Bobcats Friday night.

Leading 24-0 at the end of the first quarter, then 54-0 at the half, Florence went on to win 60-0 over defending 2018 eight-player state champion Sevastopol in Marinette-Oconto-Northern Lakes-Packerland Conference play.

The Bobcats, now 4-0 on the season, gained 296 of their 351 total yards of offense on the ground. Quarterback Toby Wheeler passed for 55 yards, while rushing for 72 yards on nine carries and a touchdown.

He also had a team high 15 tackles on defense. Head coach Kent Walstrom praised Wheeler for his excellence on defense for the night.

Kaden Schuls, 11 carries for 93 yards and five touchdowns, led the Bobcats offensively. Schuls also had two interceptions on the defensive side of the ball. Corbin Berhmann added two interceptions of his own, to go along with 52 rushing yards on six carries.

Team captain William Libergen rushed for a touchdown, as did Andy Hirn. The Hirn touchdown was his first varsity touchdown.

Matthew Johnson had seven tackles on defense for Florence.

“Even though we won as handily as we did, we learned something from our opponent tonight. They didn’t hang their heads, they didn’t quit, they handled themselves with the utmost class the entire night” said Walstrom. “Most teams that would be down by that much at half time, would pack it in and get down on themselves. They didn’t and I commend them for that.”

Through four games in the 2019 season, the Bobcats have outscored their opponents 210-14. They host Gillett next Friday night at Robert Landry Field in Florence, with a 7 p.m. kickoff.
