IM jayvees pick up victories

WEST ISHPEMING — On Sept. 5, the Iron Mountaineer JV football team hit the road to Marquette County to play the Westwood Patriots in a West PAC Conference matchup and came away with a 49-14 victory.

Offensively, the Mountaineers were led by Brandon Farragh with 85 rushing yards on 12 carries and two touchdowns. Gabe Richtig added a touchdown on two carries and 58 yards, to go along with an interception returned for another touchdown.

Also rushing for touchdowns were Hunter Fortner, Brenden LaPoint and Shawn McGuire.

Quarterback Joey Colavecchi was 4-of-9 for 76 yards passing.

Defensively, Michael Talerico had a team-high seven tackles, while Lucas Maxon added six. Marcus Verrette had a quarterback sack and a forced fumble. Hunter Fortner blocked a Westwood punt.

In Iron Mountain on Thursday, the Mountaineers welcomed the Houghton Gremlins to Mountaineer Stadium for West PAC Conference action and shut out their visitors from the Copper Country by a score of 28-0.

Leading the way in the rushing department for Iron Mountain was Gabe Richtig with 63 yards on 10 carries with three touchdowns. Brandon Farragh added 61 yards on 10 carries.

Brenden LaPoint was 2-for-2 passing, with 31- yard and 28-yard touchdown strikes to Hunter Fortner.

Fortner led the Mountaineers with seven tackles and a fumble recovery. Evan Tregillis also recovered a fumble. Preston Roberts had six tackles, while Shawn McGuire had an interception. Marcus Verrette recorded a quarterback sack to go along with five tackles.

Iron Mountain travels to long time rival Norway on Thursday. Kickoff at Ronberg Field is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
