Giovanni Colavecchi

IRON MOUNTAIN – Iron Mountain senior Giovanni Colavecchi is headed to Northwood University this fall where he will play football and major in marketing, specializing in analytics and statistics. Northwood, an NCAA Division II school, is located in Midland and is a member of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.

Colavecchi started on the varsity for head coach Robin Marttila for three years, also participating in wrestling, track, and tennis in his four years of high school.

“I have been very blessed to be part of a winning Iron Mountain team, going to play in the Superior Dome with my fellow Mountaineers in the semifinals with the support of the whole U.P. and to also be selected as an all-state lineman,” Colavecchi said.

Colavecchi was a Division 7-8 Michigan Associated Press All-State selection as a lineman in 2019, while being unanimously named to the All-Class Dream Team as a center. In the Copper Division of the West PAC Conference, Colavecchi was runner up as Lineman of the Year and was the All-Conference Copper Division selection at center.

“I thank god, my family, and friends for my success,” Colavecchi said. ” I am proud and excited to be playing at the next level.”

“Gio has always had a dream to play college football,” Marttila said. “He loves the game; I am very happy for him and wish him the best of luck.”
