Millan cans 36 in Florence girls’ OT victory

ELCHO, Wis. — Florence freshman point guard Isabella Millan canned a game-high and season-high 36 points and snared a team-high 13 rebounds as the LadyCats eked past Elcho 55-54 in overtime here Thursday night in Northern Lakes Conference action.

“Elcho was double- teaming Bella (Millan) the whole game, she put us on her back tonight,” said Florence head coach Brad Perry. “She’s so poised and works so hard, I forget she’s a freshman.”

Florence led 31-25 at the half. Perry noted that both teams had a chance to win the game in the waning moments from the free-throw line, but were unable to do so.

“Tonight was a wakeup call for the girls, after beating them (Elcho) by 25 a week or so ago at home,” Perry said. “We didn’t play our best game, but it was nice to get a road win. We need to clean up the amount of turnovers we commit, though.”

Lacey Enders, who was whistled for four fouls in the first half, played hard and smart in the second half and overtime and finished the game without fouling out, Perry added. Enders finished with nine points.

“Life on the road in the Northern Lakes is very different than when we play at home, and I told the girls it was going to be like that tonight” Perry said. “Elcho made several adjustments, and gave us a much better game than the last time. They played very hard and were ready for us tonight.”

Victoria Peterson grabbed 12 rebounds for the LadyCats.

Florence, who improves to 5-8 on the season, travels to Lena on Thursday for a non-conference matchup.
