Hord’s 31 points carries Nordic girls past Rapid River, 57-39

RAPID RIVER — North Dickinson junior Ashton Hord netted a game-high 31 points, as the Nordics cruised past Rapid River 57-39 in Skyline Central girls basketball here Monday night.

“I thought in the first couple of minutes, we missed some easy shots, because we were playing too fast. We slowed down and were more patient the rest of the game,” said ND head coach Kirk Mattson. After that, we were taking good shots and running our offense well.”

Mattson also noted that the girls did a nice job avoiding the height the Rockets have, by moving the ball around the perimeter.

Chrslyn Inglese had a team-high 11 rebounds for the Nordics. “She did an excellent job rebounding the ball all game for us,” Mattson added.

Hord was making her outside shots, which made her very hard to guard because of they way she attacks the basket as well, Mattson stated.

“I was very pleased with our overall effort, and that we came away with a win. Rapid River is a better team than their record shows,” Mattson said.

North Dickinson’s JV team won their first game of the season, 52-16.

The Nordics 3-2 (3-2 SCC) return home to host back-to-back SCC games on Wednesday and Thursday night. Bark River-Harris comes to the Carl F. Lemin Jr. Gymnasium on Wednesday night, and SCC powerhouse Carney-Nadeau on Thursday night.
