Mountaineer bowlers coming on strong

IRON MOUNTAIN — Iron Mountain’s co-op high school bowling team will wrap up its regular season schedule today in Marinette, Wis.

Most recently, the bowlers traveled to Ishpeming to take on the Westwood Patriots on Feb. 20.

The Mountaineer boys got out to a fast start and never looked back, sweeping the Baker games and all three team games, winning 36 to 3. Hunter Lautzenheiser paced the Mountaineers with a 623 series (214-200-209), followed closely by Andrew Morgan with 621 (195-213-213).

Dakota Jaeger was next with a 581 series (183-204-194), while junior Marcus Doucette and freshman Nolan White shared high game honors, with both tossing a 233 game. The Mountaineer girls faced a tough Patriot team, ending with a tie at 20 to 20.

The girls split their Baker games and won two out of three match play games to end up with the tie, losing total pins by 10 pins. Lexi Jacko led the ladies with a 570 series, which included games of 209 and 211.

“I am very happy with the progress we are making with the shortened practice and meet schedule, said head coach Pete Tomassoni. “The kids are working hard to get caught up as all Michigan bowling centers were closed for two months.

Recreation Lanes, home of the Iron Mountain co-op high school bowling team, played host to L’Anse on Feb. 13.
