WEST ISHPEMING — In a Mid Peninsula Conference and West PAC Conference boys tennis doubleheader, Iron Mountain split a pair of matches at Westwood High School Tuesday.

The Mountaineers lost to the host Patriots, 5-3, while defeating Ishpeming, 7-1.

“I’m extremely proud of the way the guys played today. Brenden LaPoint and David Juul both had two great matches today, both using a variety of shots to keep their opponents guessing,” said Iron Mountain head coach Marcus Celello.

Both Juul and Brenden LaPoint won both of their matches on the afternoon for IM, while freshman Kaden Sheldon won No. 4 singles versus Westwood and teamed with Ryan LaPoint against Ishpeming to win No. 1 doubles.

“It was great to see Carter Kassin and Michael VanPembrook come out with a win today, especially with this being their first time playing together. As we move closer to the conference and U.P. tournaments, I think we are starting to find some consistency, and we are continuing to improve every match,” Celello added.

The Mountaineers return home to host dual conference opponent Gwinn on Thursday, before competing in the Kingsford Invitational on Saturday.
