Rebels outpace Ladycats 66-44
LAONA, Wis. — Florence head coach Brad Perry knew it was going to be a tough game even before his Ladycats took the court against the Division 5, No. 8-ranked Laona-Wabeno Rebels on Monday night.
So, Perry had a plan to ride his starters against the Rebels. The plan seemed to be working, with the Rebels (8-2 overall, 3-1 conference ) holding just a five-point lead, 27-22, at the half.
But, it all seemed to change with Laona-Wabeno’s first possession of the second half, with the Rebels hanging onto the ball for over a full minute, grabbing five offensive rebounds in the process and taxing the Ladycats (5-2 overall, 2-1 conference).
“That just killed us,” Perry said. “We just ran out of gas. (But) they gave it everything they had.”
The Rebels outscored the Ladycats 39-22 after halftime to secure the win.
Isabella Millan and Kamdan Johnson were the only two Florence players in double figures with 19 and 11 points, respectively. Millan also tallied five rebounds, two assists, four steals and one blocked shot, while Johnson grabbed eight boards to go with five assists, two deals and two blocked shots.
Also contributing for the Ladycats were Leah Young with six points, and Victoria Peterson, who had a team-high nine rebounds against the Rebels, and Morgan Tomczak both with four points.
