Flivvers golf finishes third at Norway

NORWAY — It was a busy day in Norway, as 21 high school boys golf teams ascended upon Oak Crest Golf Course on Friday for the 18-hole Norway Invitational with multiple area teams making the trip.

Norway, West Iron, Kingsford, Niagara, Forest Park, North Dickinson, North Central, Iron Mountain and Florence were all in attendance alongside, Hancock, Negaunee, Stephenson, Houghton, Westwood, Calumet, Bark River, Dollar Bay, Crandon, Jeffers, Hannahville and Big Bay.

Negaunee posted the lowest team total with a 326. Cordin Erva notched at 78 to lead the Miners. Calumet was second at 330, while Houghton was close behind at 331. Kingsford was the best local finisher with a 346, while Iron Mountain and North Central posted a 371. North Dickinson came in at 378. Norway tallied a 402, Niagara recorded a 427, Florence was at 457, Forest Park was at 481 and West Iron didn’t have enough golfers to record a score.

Benton Ratala of Jeffers finished with a 77 on the day, for the lowest overall score at the competition. Negaunee’s Corbin Erva (78) and Cole Karki (79) were right behind Ratala. Three people finished at 80, IM’s Cooper Pigeon, Kingsford’s Jordan Bray and Ryder Hodgers of Calumet.

Kingsford’s best finishers were Bray (80), Lance Harry (83), Nick Foran (89), Dominic Grenfell (94).

Outside of Pigeon, The Mountaineers’ Adam Krackenberger finished at 89, Jack Supanich came in at 92, Tim Recla scored a 109 and Ketcher Smith notched a 122.

North Central’s top performers were Nate Pipkorn (84), Alex Pipkorn (86), Brody Mercier (93) and Jake Gorzinski (108).

Brady Jungwirth led North Dickinson with an 88. The Nordics also received contributions from Tyler Fleming (90), Mason Anderson (96), Richard Haney (104) and Mile Lindholm (119).

Norway ended the day at 402. The Knights received contributions from Evan Moyer (90), Josh Schiltz (96), Dallas DeBernardi (104), Justin Hoskin (112) and Tristan Heigl (113).

Niagara closed the event at 427. The Badgers were led by Alex Tripp’s 95. They also received contributions from Nate Olsen (104), Oren Loukus (111) and Tommy Martin (117).

Florence wrapped up the day at 457 while Forest Park tallied a 481. The Trojans received contributions from Brody Starr (107), Noah Starr (111), Eli Brzoznowski (120), Nate Bradish (143) and Owen Brozak (149).

West Iron County didn’t have enough players to record a score. Jared Pietila’s 100 was the Wykons’ top score. They also received contributions from Anthony Sucholl (109) and Nathan Camps (122).
