Shamion wins four events at West PAC

ISHPEMING — West Iron County senior Danica Shamion was the big winner at the West PAC meet in Ishpeming Wednesday when she earned four first-place medals.

Shamion posted victories in the 100 meters (13.04 seconds), the 200 (27.61), the 400 (58.48, a season best) and the high jump (5 feet).

In the girls team standings, Negaunee brought home the trophy by registering 165 points. Houghton (86), Calumet (62), West Iron County (57), Westwood (56), Hancock (44), Ishpeming (35), Iron Mountain (10) and Gwinn (5) followed.

The Mountaineers were led by their 400 and 800 relay teams which both finished fourth. Bella Pickett, Emma Bouchard, Alysia Wood and Zahra Wicks ran 56.34 in the 400, while Bouchard, Lindsey Lewandowski, Wood and Whitney Siren posted a season-best 2:00.75 in the 800.

In the boys event, Iron Mountain junior Bryce Davis captured the 400 meters in a time of 53.52 seconds to lead the Mountaineers. Davis also teamed with Alex Jayne, Cooper Pigeon and Micah Treiber to win the 800 relay (1:38.62) for Iron Mountain’s other victory.

Tanner Nordstrom earned all West Iron County’s points by finishing third in the discus (104 feet) and fourth in the shot put (40-09).

Houghton won the boys team championship going away with 205 points. Negaunee (117), Calumet (49), Gwinn (44), Westwood (33), Iron Mountain (32), Ishpeming (20), Hancock (13) and West Iron County (10) made up the rest of the field.
