Bobcats close regular season

WAUSAUKEE, Wis. — The Florence Bobcats took a big early lead and then saw it disappear before rallying to defeat Wausaukee 17-7 in a Northern Lakes Conference contest Tuesday in Wausaukee.

In their final game of the regular season, the Bobcats jumped on the Rangers for six runs in the top of the first only to see Wausaukee respond with four in the second and three in the third to take a 7-6 lead.

Florence regained the lead with two runs in the fourth before adding three in the fifth, two in the sixth and four in the seventh.

Matthew Smith went 3 for 4 with a double, two runs scored and two RBIs to pace the Bobcats.

Kade Larson went 2 for 4 with a double, two runs scored and two RBIs, while Carter Reed doubled and drove in two.

Kyle Smith and Carson Chrisman also recorded a pair of RBIs in Florence’s winning effort.

Trent McClain picked up the win with three innings of relief. He did not allow a run or a hit, walked one and fanned five.

The Bobcats will open WIAA Division 4 regional play when they host White Lake today. Game time is set for 5 p.m.
