Flivvers drop pair to Hancock in girls softball
KINGSFORD — In the opening game of a doubleheader with visiting Hancock Friday, the Kingsford Flivvers suffered a tough 5-4 eight-inning defeat.
On the other hand, the finale was not competitive as the Bulldogs posted a 16-1 four-inning victory.
Kingsford fell behind 2-0 in the first inning of the opener but answered back with two in the bottom half of the frame on an RBI groundout by Jenna Viau and a run-scoring single by Addy Kriegl.
The Flivvers grabbed the lead in the bottom of the third when Eden Janousek drove home a run with a grounder.
The Kingsford lead stood up until the top of the seventh when Hancock plated the tying run. The Bulldogs went on to score two in the eighth and held on for the victory.
Kriegl led the Flivvers with two hits, while Jolie Fleming drew three walks and Anna Bortolini stole four bases.
Mya Brunswick pitched well for the Flivvers. allowing 10 hits and three earned runs over the eight innings. She fanned 10 and only walked one.
Hancock wasted no time in taking control of the finale, pushing across 11 runs in the first.
Fleming, Bortolini, Reagan Cram and Kailey Matuszewksi recorded a hit each for the Flivvers, while Fleming drove in the lone run.
