Forest Park’s Fischer stars at SCC meet

Norway’s Anthony Pineda competes in the Skyline Central Conference track and field meet on Wednesday in Harris.

Forest Park junior Ava Fischer won three individual events and combined for a relay victory in the Skyline Central Conference meet held Wednesday at Bark River-Harris High School.

Individually, Fischer won both hurdles races and the pole vault and teamed with junior Lily Sarder, sophomore Vienna Price and freshman Audrey Williams to win the 1,600 relay.

The Lady Trojans fell just short of the conference title as Stephenson took home the trophy with 102 points. Forest Park finished two points behind at 100, while North Dickinson placed third with 65, Norway finished eighth with 39 and North Central finished 12th with one point scored.

In the boys team competition, Munising captured the championship with 134 points, in front of the host Broncos with 111 and Rapid River with 77.

Forest Park placed fourth with 67 and Norway followed in fifth with 65. North Central and North Dickinson finished tied for ninth with four points each.

FP senior Kevin Giuliani earned individual titles in the shot put with a personal best toss of 41-10.5 and in the discus with a throw of 134-5.

Norway senior Mason Trudeau also won a championship, taking the long jump with a 19-6.

In the girls event, Fischer ran a 17.24 to win the 100 hurdles and posted a season-best 50.65 to take the 300 hurdles. She won the pole vault with a season-high vault of 8 feet.

Forest Park’s 1,600 relay squad won its race with a time of 4:33.88.

Lady Trojan junior Elsie Williams scored her team’s other victory by winning the long jump with a leap of 15 feet. Williams also placed second in the 400 (1:03.89).

Additionally for Forest Park, freshman Audrey Williams placed second in the 1,600 (5:50.52), while Bella Tarter took third in the 3,200 (14:13.53) and Haven Van Sickle wound up third in the 100 hurdles (18.04).

North Dickinson sophomore Aunika Lindholm earned a championship in the 3,200 with a personal-best 13:07.72. Lindholm ran another personal best time in the 1,600 (5:52.85) to place third.

Lindholm also teamed with Raina Ledzian, Taylor Dennocenzo and Alyson Steinbrecher to take third in the 3,200 relay (11:07.18).

Steinbrecher posted a third-place result in the 800 (2:36.31), while Aubrey Applekamp took second in the high jump (5-0) and finished third in the 300 hurdles with a personal best 51.51. Aspen Anderson added a third in the pole vault (7-0).

Norway was led by senior sprinter Abby Richter, who finished runner-up in the 100 (13.64) and the 200 (28.35).

Junior Lauren Adams placed third in the 100 (13.73) and the 200 (28.58). The Knights also received a third-place finish from their 400-relay team of Richter, Jessa Rossler, Mary Cavagnetto and Adams (56.56).

In the boys event, Forest Park also received top three individual results from Dietrich Rasner (second in the 300 hurdles, third in the 110 hurdles) and Gabe Quevedo (third in the pole vault).

Forest Park also took second in the 1,600 relay with Rasner, William Hoffman, Joey Mainville and Max Mainville as well as the 3,200 relay with Joey and Max Mainville, Hoffman and Izaiah Tarter.

Norway’s Anthony Pineda finished second in the 200 and third in the 400, while Josh Schiltz took third in both the shot put and the discus. Kaleb Lapine also finished third in the long jump.

The Knights’ sprint relays scored points as well. The 800-relay team of Andrew Hautamaki, Lapine, Schiltz and Pineda placed second, while the 1,600-relay squad of Hautamaki, Lapine, Pineda and Trudeau finished third.

Toby Fleming led the Nordic boys with a fourth in the 800 with a personal best 2:17.23 and Spencer Willa topped the Jets boys with a fourth in the shot put.
