KHS boys claim quad track title at Menominee
MENOMINEE — The Kingsford boys track team won eight events and went on to take first place at the co-ed Menominee Quad on Tuesday.
The Flivvers amassed 87 points to win the event, followed by the Maroons with 64, Gladstone with 46 and Escanaba with 43.
The Kingsford girls posted nine runner-up finishes and placed second in their competition.
Gladstone won the girls team championship with 89 points, followed by the Flivvers with 61, Escanaba with 52 and Menominee with 37.
In the boys competition, Jack Olson and Sid Olson paced Kingsford with two individual victories each. Jack Olson took the 100 meters (11.45 seconds) and the 200 (23.62), while Sid Olson captured the 110 hurdles (16.96) and the 300 hurdles (44.1).
Other individual victors included Blake Tomasoski (4:55.57 in the 1,600) and Cavan Mulligan (2:12.53 in the 800).
Mulligan also teamed with Tyler Phelps, Ben Fornetti and Kaleb Fornetti to win the 1,600 relay (3:50.31).
In the girls event, Maddy Krieder and Maria Murvich led the Flivvers with a pair of runner-up finishes each. Krieder took second in the 100 (13.39) and in the long jump (14 feet, 6.5 inches), while Murvich placed second in the 800 (2:39.66) and the 1,600 (5:57.32).
Other Flivver individuals who posted a second-place result included Cassie Olson in the discus (74-8) and Olivia Sage in the shot put (26-1).
Three Kingsford relay teams also contributed runner-up points. Krieder and her sister, Mylee, along with Avery Edwards and Sophia Fornetti, took second in both the 400 and the 800 relays.
Additionally, Mira Johnson, Aalayah Noasconi, Alyvia Kowalski and Olivia Wescott recorded an 11:59.83 in the 3,200 relay and wound up second.
