KHS softball collects 2 wins at Ishpeming

ISHPEMING — The Kingsford Flivvers exploded for 29 runs in their nonconference doubleheader sweep of host Ishpeming on Monday.

Anna Bortolini hit an inside-the-park home run in the top of the first to put the Flivvers in the lead in the opener and they never looked back in their 13-1 five-inning triumph.

In the nightcap, Kailey Sundquist drilled a two-run home run and drove in four runs to highlight the Flivvers’ 16-1 victory in five innings.

In the first game, the Flivvers scored five runs in the second and then added four more in the third, sparked by Bortolini’s bases-loaded single.

All that offense was more than enough for Kingsford starter Mya Brunswick, who allowed three hits and struck out 12 hitters in the five innings. In the second inning, Brunswick struck out the side on nine pitches.

Sundquist chipped in with a two-run double, while Karly Trevillian and Jazz Shaughnessy added an RBI each.

Grace Rice recorded two hits for the winners and Addy Kriegl drew two walks and stole two bases.

In the finale, Kingsford pushed across seven runs in the top of the second to seize early control. Trevillian added to the offensive parade with three runs driven in to go, while Eden Janousek registered two. Rice, Kriegl, Jenna Viau and Sylvia Sutton chipped in with one RBI each.

Reagan Cram notched the victory, surrendering only one hit with five strikeouts in five innings.

Starting at $3.50/week.
