Knights capture SCC title

NORWAY — Despite playing a string of games in the past week-plus, the Norway Knights continue to pound the ball on offense and stymie teams with their pitching.

And with their doubleheader sweep of visiting Bark River-Harris Monday, the Knights have wrapped up the Skyline Central Conference title.

“We are a tired baseball team with 10 games and travel in the last eight days, so I am proud of how they grinded today and they were rewarded with a conference championship,” Knights coach Tony Adams said after the victories.

In the opener, Landon Amundson belted a double and a triple and drove in three runs to support the two-hit pitching of Cole Baij in Norway’s 9-2 victory.

The Knights (19-2-1, 10-0) scored four runs in the first and four more in the second to grab a big early advantage.

Owen Baij posted three hits and two RBIs to go with an RBI each from Bryce Adams, Carter Cazzola, Elliott Kraemer and Landon Ross. Cameron Varda supplied a double and two runs scored.

Cole Baij went the distance and struck out 15. He gave up two hits, two earned runs and one walk.

“Cole Baij was dominant on the mound and Landon Amundson had the big game on offense,” Coach Adams said. “We had a really good start and were a little sloppy at the end.”

In the finale, Varda went 3 for 4 with four RBIs to spark Norway’s 10-0 win in five innings. Adams drove home two runs, while Cazzola and Amundson added one each.

Owen Baij recorded a double and a single and scored twice.

Adams got the start on the hill and delivered a three-hit shutout. He struck out eight without issuing a walk.

“Bryce Adams was really good in game 2 and Cameron Varda stepped up big on offense,” Coach Adams said.

Starting at $3.50/week.
