Knights hold Eagles hitless in DH sweep

STEPHENSON — Four Norway pitchers held host Stephenson hitless over the course of nine innings in the Knights’ doubleheader sweep of the Eagles in a Skyline Central Conference matchup Tuesday.

Cole Baij threw three perfect innings and fanned seven of the nine hitters he faced as Norway posted a 17-0, 3 1/2-inning victory in the opener. Baij fired 23 strikes of the 30 pitches he threw.

Then in the nightcap, Bryce Adams, Owen Baij and Landon Amundson combined to hold Stephenson without a hit in Norway’s 12-0 5 1/2-inning triumph.

Norway wasted no time in establishing its dominance in the first game. The Knights plated four runs in the opening inning, three more in the second and then exploded for 10 in the third.

Owen Baij ripped three hits, including a double, and knocked in five runs to lead the Norway hitting parade. Adams and Carter Cazzola each drove in two runs, while Cole Baij and Landon Ross recorded an RBI apiece.

Owen Baij and Tanner Finley scored three runs each for the winners.

The Knights drew 10 walks in the three innings.

In the second game, the Knights hit Stephenson with two in the first, two in the third, five in the fourth and three more in the fifth.

Adams drove in four runs, while Amundson, Cole Baij, Luke Lagina and Cazzola posted an RBI each in the victory.

Owen Baij scored three runs, while Amundson and Lagina crossed the plate twice each.

Adams pitched the first three innings and notched the win. He struck out four and walked two. Owen Baij followed and fanned two in his one inning of work. Amundson pitched the fifth inning in a mop-up role.

Knights’ coach Tony Adams said his team was itching to compete after recent weather postponements.

“With six games lost in the last week, we really needed to play,” he said. “Landon Amundson, Owen Baij, Bryce Adams, and Carter Cazzola had nice days at the plate. Cole Baij was excellent on the mound in game one and our pitching was good in game two.

“We still have much to improve on going forward.”

Starting at $3.50/week.
