NORWAY — The Norway Knights often score in bunches, and they did again in their doubleheader sweep of Iron Mountain Thursday on Senior Day at Mike Maule Field.

Then in the second game, Norway tallied four runs in the first, three in the second and two in the third to go up by seven on the way to an 11-1 victory in five innings.

“Senior Day is always an emotional day,” Norway coach Tony Adams said. “We are thankful to our seniors.”

Joey Wahoviak led the Mountaineers offensively in the first game with two hits and an RBI. Jake Powell doubled and drove in one and Ian Marttila knocked in a run as well.

In the second game, Iron Mountain scored an unearned run in the top of the first but Norway (21-2-1) answered with four in the bottom of the frame to take control.

Amundson led the Knights’ attack with two hits and three RBIs. Gallino added two hits, two RBIs and two runs scored, Owen Baij drilled a double and knocked in two and Adams drove in two.

Cole Baij chipped in with an RBI and two runs scored.

Owen Baij earned the win with three innings of work. He gave up one hit, no earned runs and struck out six. Gallino worked the final two innings without surrendering a run. He allowed three hits and fanned three.

Aidan Ellis doubled and scored IM’s lone run. Wahoviak, Charlie Anderson and Lane Wender each singled for the Mountaineers.

Norway coach Tony Adams reviewed the day and his team’s focus afterwards.

“We were able to put together a couple of big innings late in game 1,” he said. “Our focus was better in game 2. Our process right now is much more important than our record, which means we have work to do, especially with the little things.”
