LadyCats pound Wausaukee to open regional softball tourney
FLORENCE, Wis. — The Florence LadyCats advanced to the WIAA Division 5 sectional round with a 15-1 victory over Wausaukee Tuesday at Florence High School.
The third-seeded LadyCats scored early and often, posting six runs in the bottom of the first, five in the second and four in the third. The game ended after 4 1/2 innings.
Ashlyn VanDenHeuvel topped Florence offensively with a double and two singles. Ashley Peterson, Miley VanDenHeuvel, Aurora McCarthy and Audrey Franz all recorded a double in the contest.
Allison Wood added two singles and Quinn Cassidy logged one.
Wood pitched all five innings for the LadyCats to earn the win. She allowed four hits and issued two walks while striking out eight.
With the victory, Florence now travels to face second-seeded Laona/Wabeno at 5 p.m. today.
